Six Flags announces plans for two more parks in China
POSTED 22 Feb 2017 . BY Tom Anstey
Coming to Bishan, Chongqing, both a theme and waterpark are being developed, once again in partnership with the Riverside Investment Group Credit: Six Flags
Six Flags’ aggressive Chinese expansion continues, after the operator signed new deals to bring two more Six Flags-branded parks to the country.

Coming to Bishan, Chongqing, both a theme and waterpark are being developed, once again in partnership with the Riverside Investment Group – its existing development partner who Six Flags CEO John Duffey revealed to Attractions Management last year were planning to build “multiple” Six Flags parks in China over the course of the next 10 years.

No details have been revealed about what will be included in the new parks, with Six Flags only promising "record-breaking roller coasters, live shows, thrilling water attractions and more."

The first Six Flags-branded parks in China – operating under a franchise model outside of the US – are anticipated to open in 2019 and will be located in Haiyan, Zhejiang province, near Shanghai.

There are also confirmed plans for two parks in Vietnam, while further Asian expansion could well be on the way, with rumours for parks in Singapore and Malaysia.

In the Middle East, Six Flags has also confirmed plans to bring its first branded theme park to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and recently broke ground on Six Flags Dubai – the latest addition to the multi-billion dollar Dubai Parks and Resorts development which opened in December.
