Behemoth indoor waterpark resort in the Poconos adds spa
POSTED 17 Aug 2015 . BY Jane Kitchen
The $163m (€149m, £105m), eight-storey, 453-bedroom indoor waterpark resort sprawls 125,000sq ft (11,613sq m) Credit: Camelback Resort
The newly opened Camelback Lodge & Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark in Tannersville, Pennsylvania, US, has completed the second phase of its construction, which includes adding an extra 216 bedrooms, a restaurant, and a 9,000sq ft (836sq m) Serenity Spa & Fitness Center.

The Serenity Spa, designed by Wisconsin-based Architectural Design Consultants (ADCI), includes nine treatment rooms, four pedicure stations and four manicure stations, and will offer massages, body treatments, organic facials and peels and waxing. It will use Farmhouse Fresh Goods in its body treatments, Eminence Organics Skincare for facials, and Nufree for waxing.

“Our spa is tucked away with breathtaking views of the mountains,” said spa director Christina Wells. “Our services and spa atmosphere were inspired by our location with nature and its surroundings.”

Nestled in the American resort area of the Pocono Mountains, with close proximity to both New York and Philadelphia, the US$163m (€149m, £105m), eight-storey, 453-bedroom indoor waterpark resort sprawls 125,000sq ft (11,613sq m). It claims to be the largest indoor waterpark in the American Northeast, with seven pools, 13 waterslides, and a number of unique water attractions, including Storm Chaser, a gravity-defying uphill water coaster and Venus SlydeTrap, which combines three waterslide experiences in one.

It also includes a 45,000sq ft (4,181sq m) Arcadia Family Adventure Center with video, interactive and ticket redemption games; a vertical rock-climbing wall and K2 Klimb overhead ropes course; mini golf; laser tag; children’s arts and crafts centre; a soft play centre; and a 600sq ft (56sq m) Oasis Kids Spa, offering manicures and pedicures for children.

The lodge features “mountain-modern” architecture and design, with 20 different suite styles, many designed to accommodate families and large groups.

Camelback Lodge & Acquatopia Indoor Waterpark is designed to complement Camelback Resort’s existing seasonal outdoor recreation offerings, including Camelbeach outdoor waterpark, skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing, ziplining, a treetops obstacle course, a mountain coaster and more.

The resort is owned by a partnership comprising Camelback Resort and Camelback Waterpark co-owners Arthur Berry III and Ken Ellis, plus Stand Rock Hospitality partners Pete Helland Jr, Pat Helland, Tim Lucke and Tim Gantz.

“Camelback Resort has been a place for friends and family to gather for more than 50 years,” said Berry. “With the opening of Camelback Lodge & Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark, we now offer more year-round adventure in one mountain location than anywhere else in the country.”
